Caroling
"The mystery plays of the fifteenth century were the earliest carols in the English language. Many English scholars give the fifteenth century as the time of origin of the “true carol.” Carols were folk in origin and affected by secular music. Whatever the actual date of the earliest carols, they were elementary in thought and assertion and were of different types—dramatic, narrative, or lyrical." - an exerpt from Lyrics, Legends and Lore of Christmas

If you thought you knew all about Christmas, read Lyrics, Legends and Lore of Christmas by Alice E. Adamek

She reminds us that the pagan philosophy with their bright lights, fire and lovely green trees existed before Christianity. Christians took the most beautiful and appealing beliefs and customs, supplemented a new spirit, Gods gift to man, giving the customs new meaning and beauty.

The Three Wise Men
The story of a familiar symbol of Christmas is told in St. Matthew. Referred to as the Three Kings and also as the Magi (the Three Wise Men), they are commonly a big part of the Nativity scene. St. Matthew tells the story of the Three Wise Men and their visit to the Christ child. In medieval legend, Melchior, King of Arabia, brought a gift of gold (signifying king); Gaspar or Gasper, King of Tarsus, brought myrrh (signifying great physician); and Balthasar, King of Ethiopia, brought frankincense (signifying high priest).

- But is this really true? In "Lyrics, Legends, and Lore of Christmas", Alice Adamek explores this Biblical story in depth and reveals some fascinating information.
